Jessica Carr

Longitudinal study of bird habitats to track bird migration and behavior

2018 STEM Scholar
Pierre, SD Georgia Morse Middle School

Jessica’s Big Idea: Using the iNaturalist app, Jessica’s students conducted a longitudinal project to observe and track bird migration and behavior in their community. They built bird habitats and learned about the importance of habitat management. Students learned how to record data, compute mathematical equations, and take accountability and ownership for affecting wildlife in their area. This project partnered with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks, local chapters of Delta Waterfowl and Ducks Unlimited, as well as the local 4-H extension office.
