The National Stem Cell Foundation and the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) have partnered to fund a second adult stem cell research grant, the OREF Clinical Research Grant in Cellular Therapy. As with their co-funded grant in 2014, this collaboration will allow both organizations to direct significant funding to stem cell research, which is expected to play a key role in the future of orthopaedic medicine.
The grant will provide up to $800,000 over a three-year period, making it the largest grant ever offered by OREF.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, stem cell therapies hold great promise for the treatment of many common musculoskeletal conditions including bone fractures and nonunions, articular cartilage damage and ligament and tendon ruptures and tears.
