Tonya Prentice

Investigating factors impacting local water quality

2022 STEM Scholar
Trenton, ME Tremont Consolidated School

Tonya’s Big Idea:

Tonya’s students investigated the Marsh Mystery! Does stormwater runoff, climate change, and/or sea level impact local water quality, species diversity, and infrastructures in local salt marshes and other bodies of water? Students collected, analyzed, and interpreted data to test their hypotheses and determine what measures could be taken to alleviate these impacts.

Interesting Facts:

Tonya has raised endangered Atlantic salmon in her classroom for over 12 years.

In her own words: “I teach to inspire young scientists and spark curiosity in my students about the world around them.”
