Patrick Marti

Used GIS software to create interactive digital maps

2020 STEM Scholar
Seattle, WA Villa Academy

Patrick’s big idea: Patrick’s students took part in a project that will span across their entire time in middle school. They began by using GIS software to create an interactive digital map and used it to learn about life science, earth science, and physical science.

Interesting facts:  Patrick has a bounty of world knowledge through his work in grad school, an environmental nonprofit, and even two assignments in the Peace Corps!

In his own words: “I have experienced firsthand the power of science when used to creatively address community challenges. It is through this lens that I became a teacher, and I aim to inspire and empower my students to harness the power of science to improve our world.”
