Meet Rob Waddell

26th January 2015

At age 11, Rob Waddell was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease. He had watched his mother, who also suffered from kidney disease, endure regular dialysis. He knew the regular and necessary treatment would lead to a “hollow existence”. Three years ago, the father of four realized he would need a kidney transplant. When he learned of the clinical trial NSCF supports for a combination kidney transplant/stem cell transplant, he chose to participate. Rob received both a kidney donation and adult stem cells from a neighbor, and with this new mini-bone marrow transplant, is freed from the burden of anti-rejection drugs normally associated with organ transplants. Hear his story in his own words and that of his family.
